Here in the States, we have a saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Grammatical considerations aside, we recently ran up against this maxim the hard way.
In an effort to provide NAUTILUS discs to our international subscribers in a more timely fashion, we changed our methods of distributing our discs several issues ago. Did it speed up the process? No. In fact, many of you reported that Volume 3-6 might as well have fallen into the ocean! Therefore, effective Volume 3-7 (last issue) we returned to our previous distribution method. Hopefully the problems have been solved, and you should now be receiving your NAUTILUS discs in a more timely fashion. We apologize for any inconvenience our meddling may have caused.
VOLUME 3-8 IS A FUN ONE...
Along with some oppressively hot and humid weather, mid-summer silliness has set in here at the NAUTILUS offices. As a result, we've reverted to some pretty far-fetched material this issue. For example, the Tools & Techniques section includes a whole series of color trashcans for your desktop, there's fun "Home Improvement" sound effects in the Music & Sounds section, HighFive¬ (part of the Software section) counts Flea Circus among its number... and then there's SimPiglet (!?) in Entertainment. Face it, we know better than to take life -- and ourselves -- too seriously!
Despite our lapse, we also can point to some outstanding materials you won't want to miss, specifically the Heitor Villa-Lobos guitar work Prelude I, found in the MIDI Connection of Music & Sounds, and a multimedia report on the recent Space Shuttle Endeavour mission (the one with the INTELSAT rescue) -- complete with gorgeous images and QuickTime movies.
The bottom line? We trust you'll enjoy this issue of NAUTILUS, and that you'll continue to let us know what you think.
